Open 2026 Masters Bonspiel - Join the Action at the Esquimalt Curling Club!

The Esquimalt Curling Club is kicking off the new year with an exciting week of curling for our Masters community! The Open 2026 Masters Bonspiel brings together two great events -- our traditional Masters Bonspiel and the always-popular Funspiel-running January 6-9, 2026.

Whether you’re looking for competitive play or a relaxed, social curling experience, we have something for everyone. Both events come together for a shared luncheon on January 8, creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere for all curlers.

Masters Bonspiel

For curlers seeking a full competitive experience, the Masters Bonspiel offers:

• 5 games over January 6-8
• Maximum 12 teams
• A jug of beer per team
• $60 per win (round robin + playoffs)
• $280 per team

Funspiel

Perfect for curlers who enjoy a laid-back format:

• 4 games, one per day (Jan 6-9)
• Light lunch on Jan 9
• Beer or wine tickets
• Random prize draws
• Sign up individually (max 48 curlers; aiming for a balanced mix of men and women)
• $70 per person

Bonspiel History

Esquimalt Masters Open Bonspiel Rules

The 5 rock free guard zone rule is in effect.

All games shall be played in accordance with the Canadian Curling Association Rules.

All games are 8 ends (or less). Tie games in the Events (A, B & C) will be decided by an extra end. Ties in the Pool rounds will be broken by a draw to the button. The team that scored last goes first. Any team member player may throw. Only the throwing team may sweep. Losing team gets 1 pt.

Game times are 2 hours and 15 min.

Teams may play with three players if necessary.

Spares may not be a member of any other team registered in the Bonspiel.

If a team is unable to start at the designated time it will be penalized as follows:

•     For every 10 mins the game is delayed the other team will be awarded 1 point and last rock.
•     After a delay of 30 mins, the game will be defaulted in favour of the team present.
