Curler of the Year 2018-2019
Darrell has been an avid curler for over 40 years. For over 30 years, he has been a member of The Wednesday men's league while also curling in the Sportsmens league. Darrell has served on the executive for the Monday and Wednesday men's leagues for over 15 years, many of them as treasure.
Darrell has organized and overseen the men's shorty for many years helping to support new curlers and keep some of the older ones involved in the sport. Darrell was one of the main executive members that helped the leagues recover after tough financial times. Serving as Treasurer, Darrell was famous for his napkin book keeping and using his pockets for sorting what cash came in and what went out during the bonspiels. Darrell worked hard to come up with fundraising ideas that made the leagues solvent and contributed to the success we are experiencing today.
As an active curler Darrell has participated in local bonspiels, spreading the message that Esquimalt is the best place to curl, and he has been an active participant in the annual BC Fire Fighters curling championship with plans to attend and participate this year.
After going though Quintuple bypass surgery, Darrell has told us this is his last year on the executive and it could be his last year of curling. Double D is an all-round solid, great guy who the curling community will miss when he hangs them up!
